Theme 6

Bereavement

The state of bereavement is a hard place for many of us. It might be that we hardly recognize ourselves for a while – and then we discover new aspects of ourselves. The stories span different aspects of bereavement, the need to grieve, the importance of acknowledgement, the reality that grief has no stages or recognizable sequence.  People talk about the way the deceased’s possessions can take on an overwhelming importance. Getti’s story recaps three losses: the loss of the person, the loss of the unique you - the person who you were in the eyes of the loved one - and the loss of social status.
