Money, Planning, Emotions

With medical advances, there’s increasing longevity and that can be an emotional and financial challenge requiring careful planning. And in countries that don’t have substantial government pensions, it’s currently only a tiny minority that are able to live out their elderliness without support from the younger generation. Making monetary decisions is often emotionally very challenging – the need to leave the family home that one can no longer afford the upkeep of or Helen and Roger faced the need to be in a different space that is physically less challenging, without stairs and with help close by. The other monetary planning that’s required is for the rituals for when you or one of your family dies – and Nokuzola’s story going into debt to satisfy the important emotional need of doing right is not uncommon.
