Theme 1

Living Life Alive

Living Life Alive begins with Mary Oliver’s poem The Summer Day which ends with these lines:
‘Doesn’t everything die at last and too soon?
Tell me, what is it that you plan to do
With your one wild and precious life?’
The six stories in Part One all grapple with this question. The characters Pulane, Sam, Stefanie, Kee and Gina are shaped by external events that impact on their lives, and they in turn make decisions about how they want to live, work and love. Themes emerge: Finding purpose. Being appreciated. Creating legacy. The importance of love and joy as essential to our life force.
